What is Kodály Music Education?

Kodály-inspired teaching is a sequential philosophy that promotes active music making, musicality, literacy, and expression while fostering communal strength and cultural understanding. The American Kodály institute's program emphasizes materials, methods, and sequencing appropriate for students in American schools and is endorsed by the Organization of American Kodály Educators. It includes training in vocal development and pedagogy, movement, application of current research into how children learn music, and basic accompaniment skills on Appalachian dulcimer, guitar, and ukulele.
